How It All Started

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was India’s pre-eminent political and spiritual leader who spent his entire life striving for justice, peace, non-violence, and equality among countries, races, and classes. His doctrine of non-violent action will keep influencing many generations to come.

Eternal Gandhi Interactive Multimedia Exhibition is the brainchild of Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla. He felt the need to transcend the Mahatma beyond the realm of textbooks to enliven him in the minds and hearts of school children and Gandhi-scholars alike. To realise his dream of recreating the history of this timeless man, he decided on the 21st century’s medium of information technology and gave a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Eternal Gandhi Interactive Multimedia Museum is a technological and design milestone in culturally rooted computing and culture-conscious product design. It was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh in the presence of hundreds of Gandhian, at the Birla House Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi in the year 2005. The Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum is the world’s first and the only interactive multimedia museum based on Mahatma Gandhi. It presents a spectrum of vision inspired by the Gandhian teachings while preserving his life’s historical events. With a crowd of 50,000 visitors per month the museum also runs a mobile version of the same exhibition, designed to tour far corners of the globe. Aditya Birla Group is launching this very important museum in Birmingham, UK; Houston, USA; and planning one in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
